Annual Meeting of the AGD 2017

in Potsdam, October 6–7

Topic: Genomic medicine for better therapies

Dear Members and Friends of the AGD,

Medical genomics has already found its way into clinical practice. Moreover, it also spurred the development of new personalized molecular treatment strategies. Based on the genomic breakthroughs of the last decade translational efforts and personalized treatments have been established in cancer clinics. Likewise, substantial progress has been made in unraveling the genomic basis of rare diseases and translating these discoveries into treatments. Influencing the transcript levels or splice modulations are already approved treatments or in advanced phase clinical trials. Particularly, manipulation of genetic modifiers provides good opportunities to alleviate the consequences of genetic defects. As a prerequisite, all therapeutic maneuvers rely on a fast and valid identification of disease causing genomic variants. Thus, a swift interpretation of whole genome sequences remains a key challenge in genomic medicine. This meeting will provide a selection of exciting stories how genomic findings are facilitating the introduction of new therapeutic interventions.

You are cordially invited to participate in the 2017 AGD meeting, held in Potsdam on October 6 and 7, 2017. The meeting will address the above issues in four sessions:

Session 1 — Personalized therapies in oncology
Session 2 — The genome track to therapeutic interventions
Session 3 — Transcriptomics and RNA therapeutics
Session 4 — Tackling genetic heterogeneity and clinical variability

The detailled scientific program can be downloaded here.

From the presentations given at the meeting and from the discussions, we expect fruitful impulses for future developments, not only in research but also in our health care systems.

We are convinced that the meeting program is very attractive, and that the excellent speakers will manage to inspire you and your future work. The pleasant atmosphere of the »Seminaris SeeHotel Potsdam« and of its surroundings at the Templiner See is ideally suited for this high-profile scientific meeting.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Potsdam.

Sincerely yours,
